Oulu doctor accused of prescribing narcotics for illegal sales

Police accused a physician in Oulu of prescribing narcotics for several people in the region to sell in the black market, said police in a press release on Friday.
After completion of the preliminary investigation, police suspected that the doctor prescribed the unjustified medicines, classified as central nervous system agents and narcotics for more than one year and a half in exchange of financial benefit.
The police found that a large number of prescriptions were issued by the doctor from January 2021 to July 2022.
They suspected that the doctor asked the people, who were given the prescriptions to sell sedatives and gained financial benefit from them in exchange of writing the unjustified prescriptions.
The doctor was also suspected of taking share of the narcotics for own use.
According to local media, the doctor is a 45-year-old woman.
The police conducted extensive search at many places and the physician was detained during the preliminary investigation.
The case was forwarded to prosecutor as serious narcotics crime, said police.
