Man burnt to death in Rovaniemi building fire

One person was killed and another sustained serious burn injuries in a fire at an apartment building in Rovaniemi, a municipality in Lapland region late Friday night, police said in a press release on early Saturday.

The fire broke out at about 8:00 pm at the small apartment of the building at Pappilantie area in the city.

Responding to an alarm, several units of rescue service and police rushed to the spot and rescued two middle-aged people from the apartment. But one of them already succumbed to wounds by this time.

Police, however, did not divulge the detail identity of the decease.

The reason behind the fire could not be known immediately but police did not suspect any link to crime incident in the fire.

Police and rescue service people are investigating into the incident to find out the origin of the fire.
