The five-party alliance government on Friday survived a no-confidence motion brought against it in parliament by three opposition parties over the handling of the economy and an increase in state debt.

The government won the motion by 85 votes to 72 with 42 lawmakers remaining absent, said the parliament in a press release.

The parliamentary groups of the Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party-NCP), Suomen Kristillisdemokraati (Christian Democratic Party) and Liike Nyt (Movement Now) submitted the motion.

The main opposition Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party), however, did not participate in the motion but proposed another no-confidence motion.
