Thousand stage demo in Helsinki demanding end of Russia´s Ukraine invasion

About one thousand people stage a demonstration in Helsinki on Saturday afternoon protesting against the Russia´s invasion of Ukraine, police and the organisers said.

They brought out a precession under the banner of “Peace to Ukraine” from Kansalaistori (Citizens’ Square) at about 1:20 pm and proceeded to the Russian Embassy on Tehtaankatu in the Kaivopuisto area.

After the procession, the demonstrators also held a rally from where they demanded immediate stop of the war.

Finnish, Ukrainian and Russian people participated in the demonstration and expressed their solidarity against the war.

Helsinki police in a twitter post wrote that about 1000 people participated in the demonstration and it was ended peacefully.

The demonstration, however, disrupted traffic movement at the area for short while but vehicular movement restored after the procession, said police.

The demonstration was jointly organised by Finnish branch of War Resisters' International, the Peace Union of Finland, the Finnish Peace Committee and the peace group Committee of 100.
