The government on Wednesday issued a decree on the North Atlantic Treaty, the founding treaty of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), said the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in a press release.

The decree brought into force the North Atlantic Treaty, as amended by the Accession Protocols, and the act on bringing into force the provisions of a legislative nature in the North Atlantic Treaty.

The issuance of the government decree completed the national approval process, and the North Atlantic Treaty is integrated into Finnish legislation.

Finland became a member of NATO on 4 April upon depositing its instrument of accession to the North Atlantic Treaty with the United States Government in Brussels. Finland’s NATO membership entered into force internationally with the deposit of the instrument of accession.

Parliament accepted Finland’s accession to the North Atlantic Treaty on March 1, 2023 and the President decided on Finland’s accession on March 23.
