Number of people living alone doubles in 3 decades

The number of persons living alone has doubled in Finland from 1990 at the end of 2022, according to Statistics Finland.
The increase in the number of young people living alone, however, slowed down in 2022.
The number of persons aged under 30 living alone grew by around 5,300 in 2022, which is the lowest number since 2015.
In other age groups, the increase in living alone continued more steadily. In total, the number of persons living alone increased by around 24,000 persons.
At the end of 2022, there were 1.3 million persons living alone, of whom 45 per cent were aged 60 or over.
The number of persons living alone grew by around 24,000 from the previous year, nearly 11,000 of whom were aged 60 or over.
