Passengers come under gas spray attack in Tampere bus, suspect held

A passenger was exposed to suspected pepper spray while several co-passengers suffered syndrome inside a bus when a miscreant attacked the passenger with gas spray in Tampere on Thursday afternoon, said police in a press release.

The incident took place at about 1:00 pm when the attacker, also a passenger was getting off the bus of route number 80C at Paasikiventie area.

Responding to an alarm, police rushed to the spot and found that several passengers were suffering from mild gas spray syndrome. About 25 passengers were onboard the bus at the time of attack.

Police suspected that the sprayed gas was pepper spray or similar object, but the exact component could not be confirmed immediately.

After the incident members of the law enforcing agency conducted extensive search at the locality and arrested the suspect from Lielahdenkatu area within short time.

Police completed preliminary investigation into the incident after talking to eyewitnesses from the spot and the suspect will be charged with assault.
