4-party alliance govt led by Orpo as PM to take over on Tuesday

The four-party alliance government led by conservative Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party-NCP) Chairperson Petteri Orpo as the Prime Minister will take over on Tuesday, said a government press release on Monday.

President Sauli Niinistö on Monday met with Speaker of Parliament and leader of the government formation talks Petteri Orpo at Mäntyniemi.

The President will inform the Parliament of the nominee for Prime Minister in the plenary session starting at 11.00 am on Tuesday.

Later the parliament in its second plenary session will elect the new Prime Minister immediately.

The President will formally appoint the Prime Minister and other government ministers in the presidential session starting in the afternoon.

The ministers will be appointed as proposed by the Prime Minister. On the same occasion, the President will accept the resignation of the outgoing five-party alliance government led by Prime Minister Sanna Marin.

Promptly after its appointment, the new government will convene for a constitutive session.

At the start of the session, the ministers will take an oath or affirmation of office and a judicial oath, if they have not yet done so.

The session will decide on the division of responsibilities of ministers working in the same ministry, the composition of statutory ministerial committees and the deputising arrangements for the prime minister and other ministers. The government Programme will be given as a statement to Parliament.

Following the constitutive session, the new government will pay a complimentary visit to the Presidential Palace. This is preceded by a farewell visit by the outgoing government.

Meanwhile, the Suomenruotsalainenkansanpuolue (Swedish People’s Party of Finland-RKP), the third largest component of the alliance government on Monday afternoon announced the names of its ministers in the cabinet of the upcoming government.

Chairperson of the RKP, Anna-Maja Henriksson has been nominated as the Minister of Education while Anders Adlercreutz as the Minister for European Affairs and Owner­ship Steering and Sandra Bergqvist as Minister of Youth, Sport and Physical Activity for two years.

Earlier, the conservative Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party-NCP), radical rightist Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) and SuomenKristillisdemokraatit (Christian Democrats of Finland-CD) on Monday announced the names of their ministers in the cabinet of the upcoming four-party alliance government.

According to the share in the government, Kokoomus will get eight ministers including the Prime Minister, the Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) will get seven ministers, Suomenruotsalainenkansanpuolue (Swedish People’s Party of Finland-RKP) will get two permanent and one temporary ministers and the SuomenKristillisdemokraatit (Christian Democrats of Finland-CD) will get one permanent and one temporary ministers.
