President, PM discuss Russia’s situation

President Sauli Niinistö on Saturday evening held a meeting with Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, other responsible ministers and officials of the respective security agencies and discussed the situation in Russia, said the President Office in a press release let Saturday night.

The meeting observed that the situation in Russia developed during the last couple of days was still unclear.

Terming the events as an internal matter of Russia, the Finnish leaders said that Finland was monitoring the situation very closely.

“Finland's own security situation is stable. The authorities responsible for Finland's security are aware of the situation,” they viewed.

The new situation developed in Russia following an announcement made by Yevgeny Prigozhin, the Chief of the Wagner private military company to launch a march for justice and claimed that he had taken control of Rostov on Don, the command centre for Russia's in Ukraine.

Yevgeny also termed the excuses showed by Russia to attack Ukraine were false and baseless and demanded removal of Russia’s Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu and the Chief of the General Staff, Valery Gerasimov.

Finance Minister Riikka Purra, Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen, Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen, Foreign Trade and Development Minister Ville Tavio and Interior Minister Mari Rantanen attended the meeting where epresentatives of the authorities responsible for security were also present among others.
