6 teenagers held for stabbing 2 youths in Tampere

Two young people were injured when a group of teenagers stabbed them at Hervanta area in Tampere early Sunday, said police in a press release on Monday.
Police arrested six suspects aged between 15 years and 18 years in connection with the incident.
Responding to an alarm patrol police and rescue service people rushed to the spot just after midnight of Saturday and found that two youths came under knife attacks.
The police, however, did not divulge the identities of the victims.
The injured were taken to the hospital but their condition was not life threatening, said police.
Members of the law enforcing agency recovered three edged weapons from the spot.
Police conducted extensive search at the locality and arrested four suspects from the adjacent areas while two other suspects surrendered to the Tampere police on the following day.
At the initial stage police started investigation into the incident as attempted murder but after preliminary investigation, police termed the attack as aggravated assault.
Police interrogated the victims and the suspects and also examined the video footages of the surveillance cameras during the preliminary investigation.
“The investigation into the incident is going on, we have been able to interrogate those involved,” said Head Investigator Markku Laakso, adding that Tampere has comprehensive and high-quality public and private camera surveillance, with which such acts could be investigated quite well.
Laakso said that aggravated assault is also a very serious crime and the punishment for such crime could be up to 10 years unconditional imprisonment.
The police are also investigating, whether the attack was an attempted robbery.
