President of the United States Joe Biden will visit Finland on July 13, said the Finnish President Office and the White House in separate press releases on Sunday.

President Sauli Niinistö will host the visit of Biden and a US-Nordic Leaders’ Summit in Helsinki on the day, said the Finnish President Office.

The US-Nordic Summit will be attended by Niinistö and Biden as well as Prime Minister of Sweden Ulf Kristersson, Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Støre, Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederiksen and Prime Minister of Iceland Katrín Jakobsdóttir.

The discussions taking place at the Presidential Palace will focus on closer cooperation between the Nordic countries and the United States on security, environment and technology issues.

“This is the third meeting between the leaders of the Nordic countries and the United States. The previous summits were held in Stockholm in 2013 and in Washington in 2016. It is a pleasure to continue our discussions this time in Helsinki”, said Niinistö.

Before the Summit, Niinistö will have a bilateral meeting with Biden.

Meanwhile, the White House in its release said that Biden is scheduled to travel to the United Kingdom, Lithuania, and Finland from July 9-13.

The US President will first travel to London, United Kingdom for engagements with King Charles III and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to further strengthen the close relationship between our nations.

The President will then travel to Vilnius, Lithuania from July 11- 12 to attend the 74th NATO Summit.

On July 13, Biden will visit Helsinki, Finland for a U.S.-Nordic Leaders Summit, the press release added.

Earlier in late April, US media reported that Biden is considering a visit to Finland, the newest member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO).

Earlier in July, 2018, US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Helsinki and held their first meeting.

Biden also visited Finland in 2011 when he was the Vice President of USA.
