Prime Minister Petteri Orpo on Monday assured his Ukraine counterpart Denys Shmyhal that Finland would continue its support to Ukraine as long as it would be needed.

Talking to Shmyhal in a video conference, Orpo also said that Russia and its leadership must be held accountable for international crimes committed in Ukraine, said a government press release.

“Finland’s support for Ukraine will continue as long as it takes. Russia must end its illegal war of aggression. Russia and its leadership must be held accountable for international crimes committed in Ukraine. Russia must also compensate financially for the damage it has caused”, said Orpo.

The Ukrainian PM thanked for the significant assistance in getting through the winter pointing out that Finland had provided the largest amount of energy equipment among European countries, said the Ukrainian government in a press release.

“Throughout these months of full-scale war, Ukraine has felt the incredible solidarity of the people and government of Finland,” Shmyhal said.

Orpo also met with Ukraine's Ambassador to Helsinki Olga Dibrova at the Prime Minister’s official residence, Kesäranta on Monday.
