Boy drowns in Jakomäki pond

A 10-year old boy was drowned in a pond at Jakomäki, a neighbourhood in Helsinki in between late Sunday night and early Monday, said police in a press release on Wednesday.

Police said that the incident took place when the boy along with two of his friends were playing beside the pond on Sunday evening. At certain stage the two friends realized that their friend went missing.

The two friends tried to find him out but failed and later returned to home.

Meanwhile, responding to an alarm from the parents of the missing boy, police and rescue service people rushed to the spot on Sunday evening and tried to rescue him but failed even after conducting search for several hours.

Later, rescue service people recovered his body from the pond.

The police, however, did not divulge the identity of the deceased and did not find any crime link to the incident. The friends of the victims were not suspected of crime as they are underage.

The police are investigating into the failure to rescue the boy and the reason behind the death.
