Niinistö, Guterres discuss Black Sea Grain issue over phone

President Sauli Niinistö on Thursday held a telephone conversation with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and discussed the worsening global food situation following termination of the Black Sea Grain Initiative, said the President Office.

The President in a twitter post said that they discussed Russia´s war in Ukraine and Shared concern over deepening global divisions.

“A very good phone call with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. We discussed Russia’s war in Ukraine and global challenges such as food insecurity, further worsened by the termination of the Black Sea Grain Initiative. Shared concern over deepening global divisions,” Niinistö wrote in his twitter after the telephone conversation.

Earlier on July 17, Moscow suspended its participation in the Black Sea grain export deal.

The United Nations and Finland strongly condemned Russia`s decision to terminate the Black Sea Grain Initiative.
