Finland's birth rate dropped to an all-time low level in the first half of 2023, according to Statistics Finland.

A total of 21,180 births were recorded from January to June this year and the number is 1,082 lower compared to the stipulated period of the previous year.

Over the last one year, the total fertility rate dropped to 1.28 from 1.87 in 2010 and 1.35 in 2019.

Finland's population at the end of June was 5,578,082. The number of births was 8,570 lower than that of deaths.

The reason for the population increase was migration gain from abroad: the number of immigrants was 22,749 higher than that of emigrants.
