Finland condoles at wildfires victims in Hawaii

President Sauli Niinistö and Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen on Friday expressed condolence at the deaths of scores of people in wildfires on Maui Island of Hawaii in the United States of America.

Niinistö has sent a letter to President of the United States Joe Biden expressing his deepest condolences for the devastating wildfires in Hawaii, said the President Office in a twitter post.

The Foreign Minister also expressed condolences to the families of the victims and affected people in the wildfires.

“I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives and the destruction of countless homes and properties by the devastating wildfires in the state of Hawaii. My condolences to the families of all victims and to all people affected by this tragedy,” Valtonen wrote in a twitter post.

Firefighters on Friday continued to battle the devastating wildfires that have killed at least 55 people in Hawaii's Maui Island.

The Maui County said in a press release that firefighters continued working to extinguish flare-ups and contain fires in Lahaina, Pulehu/Kihei and Upcountry Maui on the island.
