Touko Aalto, the chairman of the opposition Vihreäliitö (Green League) on Saturday said his party will submit an interpellation to the government regarding disparity in the Finnish education system.
Speaking at a party meeting he said many students are being failed by the Finnish education system and facing social exclusion risk.
“The government has not taken the disparity in education into account seriously. … the quality of education has weakened,” he was quoted as saying by a Vihreäliitö press release.
Aalto said many students are not obtaining adequate skills in reading and writing to run their studies after basic education, resulting in the risk of their social exclusion.
The party also submitted an alternative budget where it has proposed that half a billion euros more be directed toward improving education, reported the national broadcaster Yle.
Aalto also criticised the government for neglecting the growing problems in the education sector, the press release added.
