President Sauli Niinistö held a meeting with the UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Thursday, on the final day of his US visit and discussed the Sustainable Goals and efforts to reform the United Nations.

“Closing my visit to New York and UNGA with a meeting with António Guterres. I welcome the SG’s Our Common Agenda and efforts to reform the UN to better respond to the challenges we are facing. The UN was created for moments like this – let’s make sure it rises to the occasion,” Niinistö wrote in a twitter post after the meeting.

The President and First Lady Jenni Haukio travelled New York from September 18 to 21, where the President led the Finnish delegation during the High-level Week of the 78th United Nations General Assembly.

Niinistö delivered Finland’s National Statement at the Assembly’s General Debate on Wednesday and addressed the SDG Summit on Monday during his visit.
