Daily allowance for conscripts, women performing voluntary military service and reservists in training will be increased from January 2024, said the Ministry of Defence in a press release on Wednesday.

Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen took the decision to correspond with the rise in prices indicated by the cost-of-living index.

In future, conscripts and women performing voluntary military service will be paid a daily allowance of EUR 5.90 (currently EUR 5.40), EUR 9.80 (currently EUR 9.00) for periods exceeding 165 days and EUR 13.65 (currently EUR 12.50) for periods exceeding 255 days.

The daily allowance for reservists that is currently EUR 5.40 will be increased to EUR 5.90.

“I am pleased that even in a difficult economic situation we are able to make the biggest increase in daily allowances in fifteen years,” said Häkkänen.

On an annual basis, the cost effect of increasing the daily allowances of conscripts and women performing military service is EUR 3 814 355 and EUR 88 000 in reservist daily allowance.

The costs will be covered from the Defence Forces' operating expenditure.
