1 killed in Kalajoki, suspect held

One person was killed in a violence with an alleged bandit at Kalajoki, a municipality in Northern Ostrobothnia region near Oulu city in the last weekend, police said in a press release on Monday.

The incident took place on Saturday evening when the alleged bandit attacked the person in an apartment and snatched valuables from there.

The critically injured person was taken to the hospital where the person succumbed to the wounds on Sunday morning.

Police arrested the suspect from the locality. During the preliminary investigation, the suspect, who has no previous criminal record, confessed involvement in the robbery and assaulting the victim.

Police did not divulge the identities of the deceased and the suspect.

Police, however, said that both the victim and the attacker are the residents of Kalajoki and they knew each other.

Oulu police are investigating into the incident as murder and aggravated robbery and interrogating the suspect to find out the motive of the murder.
