Christmas traffic peaks from Friday

Traffic in the Christmas season is expected to peak starting on Friday, reported the local media outlet MTV news.
According to the police assessment, traffic in southern part of the country will peak on Friday between 2.00 pm and 8.00 pm and on Saturday between 8.00 am and 12.00 pm.
The police have advised motorists to avoid the peak period in order to reduce the risks of accident. Motorists have also been reminded to observe sufficient driving distance and comply with the speed limits.
In addition, the police have advised motorists to check the tyre pressure, functionality of the headlights, windscreen washer fluids, fuel level, and correct loading of the car.
The Christmas traffic will be most on the roads out of Helsinki leading to Porvoo, Lahti and Hämeenlinna. The return traffic will begin on Christmas Day but will be the busiest on Boxing Day.
The police will intensify traffic monitoring on the major road networks and in urban areas.
