Finland on Friday strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Stockholm and expressed profound shock at the heinous incident that claimed four lives.

President Sauli Niinistö and Prime Minister Juha Sipilä sent separate statements expressing their shock and empathy to the victims’ families.

The president in his statement made in the Finnish said he was shocked by the Stockholm attack where innocent people were killed, reported the national broadcaster Yle.

“Every terror attack is equally reprehensible, but when an attack occurs in our Nordic neighbourhood, it affects us deeply. On behalf of the whole Finnish nation, I share the sorrow of the victims’ loved ones and the entire Swedish nation,” Yle quoted the president as saying.

Prime Minister Sipilä also strongly condemned the Friday’s attack, said an official press release.

“I want to express my deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims. An attack in the neighbouring country and Sweden’s capital deeply touches us all,” Sipilä said in the statement.

In his condolence message sent to Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven on behalf of the Finnish government, Sipilä said, “The government and public authorities in Finland are following the situation closely.”
