Finland again ranked second in the index of least corrupt countries published by Transparency International (TI) on Tuesday.
Another Nordic country Denmark ranked top like the previous year in the list with 90 points out of 100.
Finland secured 87 points followed by New Zealand (85), Norway (84), Singapore (83) Sweden (82), Switzerland (82) and The Netherlands (79).
Somalia is in the bottom of the list of 180 countries followed by Venezuela, Syria, South Sudan, Yemen and North Korea.
The Corruption Perception Index (CPI), which ranks 180 countries and territories by their perceived levels of public sector corruption according to experts and businesspeople, uses a scale of zero to 100, where zero is highly corrupt and 100 is very clean.
“Corruption will continue to thrive until justice systems can punish wrongdoing and keep governments in check. When justice is bought or politically interfered with, it is the people who suffer. Leaders should fully invest in and guarantee the independence of institutions that uphold the law and tackle corruption. It is time to end impunity for corruption,” said François Valérian, Chair of Transparency International in a press release.
Finland also ranked second in the least corrupt countries index in last year.
In 2022, Finland ranked top in least corrupt countries index and in 2021 Finland ranked third.
