3 killed in road mishap in Lapinlahti

Three people were killed in a road accident at Mäntylahti area in Lapinlahti, a municipality in North Savo region on Saturday morning, police said in a press release.

The accident took place at about 6:00 am when a private car coming from Kuopio direction collided head-on with a van coming from the opposite direction of Iisalmi.

Drivers of both the vehicles and a passenger of the car died on the spot in the accident.

Both the drivers were men and the lone passenger of the car was a woman.

The police, however, did not divulge the identities of the deceased and the reason behind the accident could not be known.

Police said that the road condition was very slippery due to snowfall and strong wind made the driving condition difficult at the at time of accident.

The accident disrupted vehicular movements on the road for several hours.

Police and the Accident Investigation Board are investigating into the accident to find out the reason behind it.
