1 gunned down in Kokkola, suspect held

One person was killed when a miscreant attacked the victim with a firearm at an industrial place in Kokkola, a municipality in the Central Ostrobothnia region on Saturday morning, police said in a press release on Monday.

The incident took place at about 6:00 am when the attacker fired gunshots at the person and fled the scene.

The victim sustained severe bullet wounds and died on the spot.

Responding to an alarm, police rushed to the spot and conducted extensive searches at the locality and held several people during the weekend.

After the preliminary interrogation, the police arrested one person in suspicion of the murder.

Police, however, did not divulge the detail identities of the deceased and the suspected killer but police said that an unlicensed firearm was used in the murder.

The reason behind the murder could not be known immediately.

Police are investigating into the incident as murder and did not disclose anything more at the initial stage of the investigation.
