Road accidents claim 19 lives in November

A total of 19 people were killed and 489 injured in road accidents in November. The month also saw 372 road accidents involving personal injury, according to the preliminary data of Statistics Finland.
The number of persons killed was two lower and that of persons injured 29 higher than that in November 2016.
Of the persons who were killed, 13 travelled by passenger cars, one by van, and one by lorry. Pedestrians killed in the accidents numbered three and cyclists one. Among those who died, 14 were men and five were women.
A total of 4,060 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to November period. In them, 200 persons were killed and 5,117 injured. The number of persons killed was 20 lower and that of persons injured 267 lower than that in the corresponding period of 2016.
Of the persons who were killed, 117 travelled by passenger car, 10 by van, four by moped, 12 by motorcycle, nine by lorry, and one by bus. Pedestrians killed numbered 25 and cyclists 11. In addition, 11 other road users were killed.
