The main opposition in the parliament Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland-SDP) on Wednesday held the government responsible for its failure to resolve the ongoing labour market unrest in the country.

Terming the ongoing strikes by different trade unions as failure of the Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party-NCP) led four-party alliance government, the SDP decided to table an interpellation over the labour market chaos, said the SDP in a press release on Wednesday.

"The government is stubbornly sticking to its confrontational labour market policies and refused all initiatives taken to resolve the situation so far. The SDP will file a parliamentary interpellation over the labour market chaos," SDP chairperson Antti Lindtman said in the press release.

Leader of the SDP parliamentary group, Tytti Tuppurainen accused the Prime Minister Petteri Orpo of lack of leadership to find out an amicable solution of the crisis in the labour market.

“Prime Minister Orpo found unable to answer to resolve the labor market situation. The prime minister has the keys, but the leadership is missing,” said Tuppurainen, adding that her party considers the necessity to file the interpellation.

Different trade unions are observing strikes protesting against the labour market reforms and cuts in working condition undertaken by the Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party-NCP) led four-party alliance government.
