Three opposition parties in the parliament on Friday tabled a no-confidence motion against the four-party alliance government over the ongoing labour market unrest in the country.

Leaders of the three parties- The Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland-SDP), Vihreä liitto (Finnish Green League) and Vasemmistoliitto (Left Alliance)- filed the interpellation accusing the government of its failure to resolve the labour market unrest.

The opposition parties said that the government was stubbornly sticking to its confrontational labour market policies and refused all initiatives taken to resolve the situation so far.

Two other opposition parties Suomen Keskusta (Centre Party of Finland) and Liike Nyt (Movement Now), however, did not join the motion.

The government will respond to the interpellation in a plenary session within 15 days.

After receiving the reply to the interpellation, the Parliament will hold a debate on the issue and proceeds to a no-confidence motion against the government or a particular minister.

Different trade unions were observing strikes protesting against the labour market reforms and cuts in working condition undertaken by the Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party-NCP) led four-party alliance government.
