Vastaamo hacking suspect Kivimäki held in Helsinki

Police on Saturday arrested Psychotherapy Centre Vastaamo data breach suspect Aleksanteri Kivimäki from a private apartment in Helsinki, said police in a press release.

Kivimäki, a 25-year-old man was wanted in the case and the operation to arrest him was peaceful, said police.

On February 19, the Western Uusimaa District Court issued a warrant for arresting Kivimäki for his failure to report to the police.

The criminal investigation into the data breach against Psychotherapy Centre Vastaamo and the subsequent leak of sensitive customer data was completed in last year.

The police suspect a 25-year-old Finnish man of an aggravated computer break-in, aggravated dissemination of information violating personal privacy and attempted aggravated extortion in the case.

Earlier in October 2022, the Helsinki District Court remanded a Finnish man in absentia for his alleged involvement in the incident of Psychotherapy Centre Vastaamo data hacking.

The police estimate that around 10,000 victims have not yet reported the crime.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has been investigating into the incidents since autumn 2020.

The board of the psychotherapy centre Vastaamo in October, 2020 terminated the centre’s Chief Executive Officer Ville Tapio following the large-scale data hacking.
