Taxi driver killed in road mishap in Tampere

A taxi driver was killed in a road accident at Viinika in Tampere on Saturday morning, police said in a press release.

The accident took place at about 5:30am when a private car knocked down a taxi, which remained standing at a traffic signal at the intersection of Lempääläntie and Kuokkamaantie, from the behind.

The taxi collided with the light post of the signal resulting death of the middle-age taxi driver on the spot.

Police and rescue department people rushed to the spot and recovered the body from there.

Police also arrested the driver of the private car, who is suspected of aggravated murder, aggravated endangering traffic safety, aggravated drunk driving, firearms offense and resisting an official violently.

Police and the Accident Investigation Board are investigating into the accident to find out the reason behind it.
