The Finnish Transport and Communications Agency- Traficom will issue a newly-designed driving licence from April 1, said the Traficom in a press release on Monday.
The new licence will include several significant security-enhancing features, such as a transparent window over the photo of the card holders with the view to make it more difficult to forge the licence card.
The size and existing pink colour of the licence card, however, will remain unchanged.
The existing licence card will remain valid and there is no need to update the licence.
"We occasionally update the appearance of driving licence to meet modern security requirements. The most significant new feature in this version is a transparent window over the photo of the card holders,” said Henna Antila, Head of Driving licences and Examinations of Traficom.
She also said that the new driving licence is consistent with the driving licences of other EU countries and the EU's driver's license regulations.
The Traficom annually issues about 380,000 driving licences and presently there are about 3.8 million valid driving licences in use in Finland.
