Pilot dies in Kittilä Airport accident

A German pilot died in an accident at Lapland's Kittilä Airport on Thursday, reported local media MTV news.

The 20-seat Gulfstream G 150 airplane was prepared to depart for Russia when the accident happened.

The Austria-registered aircraft was intended to fly back Russian tourists from Lapland.

According to national broadcaster Yle, the private jet pilot was hit by the door of his plane.

Efforts to resuscitate the pilot aged around 50 were not successful.

The accident is being investigated by the police and the Finnish Investigation Safety Authority.

Flags were flown half-mast at the Kittilä Airport on Friday, said airport operator Finavia.
