The Helsinki Police started to intensively monitor crime-prone and disturbance-prone areas from April 29 to May 19, in the city center as well as in metro and train transportation, said a press release on Monday.

The aim of the surveillance is to increase the sense of security at the monitored locations.

The monitoring is data-driven, meaning it is based on police statistics and feedback from stakeholders.

"We will deploy in public transport, at stations and in the immediate vicinity of stations. Active monitoring addresses observed disturbances, is present in people's daily lives, and enhances cooperation with stakeholders," said Commissioner Hanna Kiiskinen.

The planning and execution of the monitoring involve various parties including the City of Helsinki, mobile youth work, Youth Work on Rails, HSL, Urban Transport, VR, and the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency.
