Finnish leaders on Wednesday strongly condemned the attack on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and expressed profound shock at the shooting incident.

President Alexander Stubb and Prime Minister Petteri Orpo in separate posts in social media platform X also extended empathy to the victim, his family members and people of Slovakia.

“I condemn the attack on the Slovakian Prime Minister Fico in the strongest terms. Any attack against an elected politician is an attack against democracy. My thoughts are with Robert Fico, his loved ones and the people of Slovakia,” Stubb wrote.

“Shocked by the news from Slovakia about the shooting of my colleague Robert Fico. I condemn any act of violence against our democracies. My thoughts are with him and his family,” Orpo said in his post.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico is in a life-threatening condition after being shot in Handlova, Slovakia's Trencin region, reported Xinhua.

The wounded Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico is still in critical condition and is undergoing surgery, Slovak Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Robert Kalinak said Wednesday evening.
