President Alexander Stubb met with his counterpart of Iceland Guðni Th. Jóhannesson at the Presidential Palace in Helsinki on Friday and discussed various bilateral and international issues, said the President office in a press release.

The presidents discussed Nordic cooperation, the Arctic region, Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and support for Ukraine.

“We discussed the many similarities between Finland and Iceland, Nordic and Arctic cooperation and our support to Ukraine. Iceland is a dear member of the Nordic family, and our relations closer than ever,” Stubb wrote in a post in his social media platform X after the meeting.

“Kiitos (Thank you) President Alexander Stubb. Many thanks for your kindness and hospitality. In Finland, Icelanders feel at home with friends - and allies,” Jóhannesson wrote in a post in his social media platform X after the meeting.

The Icelandic president is on an unofficial visit to Finland and will be conferred an honorary doctorate by the University of Oulu.
