Stubb, Stoltenberg discuss security, Ukraine in Helsinki

President Alexander Stubb and Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Jens Stoltenberg on Wednesday held a meeting in Helsinki and discussed various European and international issues.

Earlier on the day, the NATO Chief arrived in Helsinki on a two-day visit hosted by the President.

The meeting held at the President’s official residence in Munkkiniemi, discussed security and defence policy issues, the situation in Ukraine and the forthcoming NATO summit in Washington in July.

On Thursday, Stubb and Stoltenberg will visit the Defence Command, where they will meet General Janne Jaakkola, Commander of the Finnish Defence Forces.

The programme at the Presidential Palace will also include a working lunch with Secretary General Stoltenberg, Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen, Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen and Commander of the Finnish Defence Forces, General Jaakkola hosted by Stubb.

After the lunch, there will be a discussion on “The Alliance 75 Years and Finland One Year in the Alliance”.

The discussion, organised by the Atlantic Council of Finland, will take place at the Presidential Palace.
