Girl killed in road mishap in Vantaa, 2 injured

A 12-year-old girl was killed and two others were injured in a road accident at Myyrmäki area in Vantaa late Wednesday night, police said on Thursday.

The accident took place at about 8:00 p.m. when a private car knocked down an electric scooter on Raappavuorentie road in the locality.

Three girls, who were riding on the scooter were injured in the accident.

One girl was injured critically and taken to the hospital where she succumbed to her wounds.

Police, however, did not divulge the identities of the victims but local media reported that all the three are immigrant background and belonged to Somali community.

“Three 12-year-old children, who were riding an electric scooter were injured in the accident of which the most critically injured girl died in the hospital,” Detective Inspector Asko Sartanen said.

The reason behind the accident could not be known.

Police and the Accident Investigation Board are investigating into the accident to find out the reason behind it.
