Finland seeks explanation from Russia regarding suspected sea area violation

The Foreign Ministry of Finland on Friday contacted the Embassy of Russia in Helsinki and requested an explanation regarding the suspected territorial waters violation, said the Ministry in a post on social media platform X.

A Russian vessel is suspected of a territorial violation of Finland's marine area in the eastern Gulf of Finland on Friday afternoon, said the Ministry of Defence in a press release.

The Border Guard is investigating into the incident and will provide further information as the investigation progresses.

The previous confirmed territorial violation took place on 10 June 2024, when four Russian state aircraft entered Finland's airspace off the coast of Loviisa and Porvoo.
