2 injured in explosion at Laakso hospital site in Helsinki

Two people were injured in an explosion at a construction site of Laakso Hospital at Töölö area in Helsinki on Friday afternoon, police and Rescue Department said.

The explosion occurred at about 2:40 p.m. during the construction works and the explosion sent loose stones flying as far as nearby Stenbäckinkatu.

An excavator was also damaged in the accident.

Two construction workers were injured in the accident and they were taken to hospital.

According to the initial information, the loose stones only caused material damage, said police.

The Rescue Department said that the explosion might have caused by an unexploded ordnance that was ignited during construction work.

Police and rescue service people are investigating into the incident to get detail information in this regard.
