Car driver killed in road mishap after police chase in Rantasalmi

One person was killed in a road accident following a police chase in Rantasalmi, a municipality under South Savo region on Saturday evening, police said.

The accident took place at about 6:00 p.m. when a private car collided head-on with a truck coming from opposite direction on road number 14 near Kolkonpää area.

Driver of the car died on the spot in the accident, but the truck driver was unhurt.

Police said that they tried to stop the suspected intoxicated person but the person did not obey the police signal and tried to flee.

The police patrol chased the car and it met the accident after driving about one kilometre.

The police, however, did not divulge the detail identity of the deceased.

The Accident Investigation Board and Police are investigating into the incident to find out detail about the accident.
