Man killed in e-scooter mishap in Espoo

One person was killed in a collision between two electric scooters at Leppävaara area in Espoo, police said in a press release on Friday.

The accident took place late Thursday night at about 9:00 p.m. when a man was passing through a pedestrian crossing on his e-scooter near Huvilinnanmäki and Huvilinnantie.

At the same time another young e-scooter driver struck him at high speed as a result the older e-scooter driver sustained severe wounds.

He was taken to hospital in a critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries on Friday.

The police did not divulge the identity of the deceased.

The young rider left the scene immediately after the accident.

“We are looking for the man who fled away on the electric scooter and requesting clues from the people to identify him,” Chief Inspector Hannu Kontola, said in the press release, which also attached a photo of the suspect.

He said that that at the preliminary stage, the police are investigating into the incident as gross endangerment of traffic safety, aggravated manslaughter and traffic rule violation, said Kontola.
