One more Finnish volunteer fighter was killed in Ukraine in early August, said Sodan kokeneet, a Finnish mental health association supporting people who experience war.
Ville Mykkänen, a 26-year-old fighter hailed from northern Ostrobothnia in Finland died in action at Luhansk region, the association wrote in its social media platform Facebook late Saturday night.
He is the fifth Finnish volunteer reportedly killed in Ukraine in the Russian war of aggression.
Mykkänen, who had been working in various sectors to ensure justice across the world from the very beginning of his adolescence, sacrificed life and fought to achieve peace, said Sodan kokeneet in the post.
"Russia’s war of aggression drew attention of Mykkänen on the real battle for peace and freedom. He had a strong will to defend a free nation. Finally, he fought under the banner "Flurry," and made the greatest sacrifice anyone could ever make and lost his life for freedom," the Sodan kokeneet wrote.
He joined the army in Ukraine in late autumn 2023.
Earlier in late July, the association reported the death of the fourth Finn in combat in Ukraine since Russia's invasion in 2022.
