Finnish vessel Louhi joins oil spill exercise in Baltic Sea

The Coastal Fleet’s multipurpose vessel Louhi is taking take part in the multinational Balex Delta 2024 environmental response exercise in the Baltic Sea from August 26 to August 29, said Finnish Defence Forces in a press release on Monday.

The exercise is organized in Lithuania, in the port of Klaipeda and on the coast.

The objective of the exercise is to practice oil and chemical spill response operations at sea as part of a multinational response unit.

The scenario for the exercise is the prevention of an accident caused by a grounding of a tanker.

Balex Delta is the Baltic Sea nations’ annual oil spill response exercise. It tests the alarm system between the countries and the operation of the multinational oil spill response unit.

This year, the exercise will be led by Lithuania. Besides Louhi, personnel from of the Finnish Border Guard and offshore patrol vessel Turva will participate in the exercise.
