Keskusta turns out top winning 2,823 seats

Kokoomus gets highest number of votes

The ruling Suomen Keskusta (Centre Party) has emerged as the top winner in the Sunday’s elections to the 295 municipalities across the country, except those in the Åland region, bagging 2,823 of the total 8,999 seats in the municipal councils.

The main opposition party in parliament SuomenSosialidemokraattinenPuolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland-SDP) won the second highest number of 1,696 seats followed by the KansallinenKokoomus (National Coalition Party) securing 1,492 seats. The Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) bagged 769 seats, Vasemmistoliitto (Left Alliance) won 661, VihreäLiitö (Green League) 536, Suomenruotsalainenkansanpuolue (Swedish People’s Party of Finland-RKP) 470, and SuomenKristillisdemokraatit (Christian Democrats of Finland) won 314 seats.

The SuomenKommunistinenPuolue (Communist Party of Finland -SKP) got two seats, Liberaalipuolue - Vapausvalita five seats, Piraattipuolue (Pirate Party of Finland) two seats, two independence candidates bagged one seat each, Feministinenpuolue one seat, and the remaining 226 seats went to other contesting groups.

Although the Keskusta bagged the highest number of seats, KansallinenKokoomus got the highest number of votes in the elections. Kokoomus secured 530,788 votes, or 20.7% of the total votes, while SDP got 497,463 votes (19.4%), Keskusta 450,325 votes (17.5%),VihreäLiitö 319,440 votes (12.4%), Perussuomalaiset 226,704 votes (8.8%), and Vasemmistoliitto 225,926 votes (8.8%).

DF PhotoThe number of votes secured by the Keskusta, Kokoomus, Perussuomalaiset, and SDP have reduced by 1.1 percentage points, 1.2 pp, 3.5 pp, and 0.2 pp respectively compared to the votes they got in the previous municipal polls, while the number of votes received by the VihreäLiitö and Vasemmistoliitto increased by 3.9 and 0.8 percentage points respectively.

According to the unofficial results, the Communist Workers Party (Finland) - For Peace and Socialism and the Animal Justice Party of Finland did not get any seat at all.

A total of 2,521,356 voters out of 4,391,558 cast votes in the election but 15912 votes were rejected due to various reasons.

The turnout of the voters in the elections was 58.8%, i.e., 2,521,356 voters out of the total 4,391,558. Of them 26.6% had cast their ballots in advance.

The final election results will be declared by April 12, said sources at the Ministry of Justice which is the responsible authority for the elections.
