Number of murders rises in Finland in H1

A total of 48 murders were recorded in Finland from January to June in 2024 and the number is 21 more than in the stipulated period of the previous year, according to Statistics Finland.

According to the preliminary data, a total of 239,800 offences against the Criminal Code were recorded by the police, customs and border guard during January to June 2024.

The number of offences is 0.7 per cent more than in the corresponding period of the year before.

A total of 910 rapes as defined in the new legislation on sexual offences were recorded in the first six months. Altogether 19,500 assaults were reported.

Altogether 666 cases of sexual harassment referred to in the new legislation were reported, which is 119 more than in the year before. In all, 181 of the acts were committed on the Internet.

Altogether 472 reports of dissemination or possession of a sexually offensive image of a child or following a sexually offensive performance of a child were made.

Of the acts, 434 were committed on the Internet.
