Perussuomalaiset suffers huge debacle in municipal polls

The Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party), the second biggest component of the three-party ruling alliance, has suffered a massive debacle in Sunday’s municipal polls.
According to the preliminary election results, the Perussuomalaiset bagged a total of 769 seats, which is 426 seats less than those won in the last municipality polls, that was held in 2012.
The party has received 226,704 or 8.8% of the total votes in this year’s municipal polls, marking a drop of 81,094 or 3.5% votes compared to that in the 2012 municipal polls. The Perussuomalaiset also received 297,350 or 8.8% votes less in the last parliamentary elections held in 2015.
The number of total votes secured by the Keskusta, Kokoomus, and SDP also reduced by 1.1 percentage points, 1.2 percentage points, and 0.2 percentage points respectively, while the number of votes received by the VihreäLiitö and Vasemmistoliitto increased by 3.9 per cent and 0.8 per cent respectively.
The VihreäLiitö got 536 seats this year or 213 seats higher than that in the previous municipal elections.
