The Amir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Wednesday arrived in Finland on a two-day official visit hosted by President Alexander Stubb.
The visit has begun with an official welcoming ceremony in the courtyard of the Presidential Palace in Helsinki where leaders of the two countries discussed various bilateral and international issues.
The discussion focused on deepening economic and political cooperation between the two countries, as well as the ongoing wars in Ukraine and Gaza.
“I warmly welcome His Highness the Amir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Finland. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries. A close dialogue between our two countries is important, especially because of the security situation in Europe and the Middle East,” Stubb wrote in a post on his social media platform X after the meeting late Wednesday night.
They also discussed possible cooperation in the areas of investment, economy, energy and education.
The Amir's delegation included several Qatari ministers. Before arriving in Finland, the Amir visited Sweden and Norway.
On Thursday, the Amir will meet with Speaker of Parliament Jussi Halla-aho and Prime Minister Petteri Orpo.
