A man was sentenced to life term imprisonment on Friday for killing his former partner with sharp weapon inside a fast-food chain McDonald's at Pitäjänmäki area in Helsinki in April this year.

The Helsinki District Court awarded the punishment to the 30-year-old man as the allegations brought against him were proved beyond doubt, local media reported.

Two other suspects, who were also accused of assisting the killer in the case, however, were acquitted of the charges.

The murder took place on April 6 when the convict stabbed his 22-year-old former girlfriend with a knife indiscriminately in front of the employees and customers of the shop and fled the scene by a taxi.

The woman sustained several injuries at different parts of her body and succumbed to her wounds on the spot immediately.
