President Alexander Stubb on Sunday held a discussion with Finnish Ambassador to Lebanon Anne Meskanen on situation of Lebanon over phone, according to the Embassy of Finland in Beirut.

The discussion focused on the situation of the country, particularly the sufferings of the civilians and increasing humanitarian needs following the ongoing Israeli attacks on the country.

“Ambassador Anne Meskanen had a constructive discussion over the phone with the President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb about the situation in Lebanon, the heavy price paid by civilians and increasing humanitarian needs,” the embassy wrote in a post on its social media platform in X.

Earlier, different countries including France called for an immediate cessation of Israeli strikes in Lebanon.

Israel has intensified its airstrikes across Lebanon since Monday, marking the most extensive Israeli military action in the country since 2006.

This marks the latest escalation of the ongoing clashes that began on Oct. 8, 2023, when Hezbollah started launching rockets at Israel in solidarity with Hamas in the Gaza Strip, prompting Israel's retaliatory artillery fire and airstrikes in southeastern Lebanon.
