Police conduct security inspection at Russian Embassy in Helsinki

The police on Thursday conducted a security-related inspection in the area of Russian embassy in Helsinki at the request of the embassy, said police in a press release.

The police, however, dis not divulge detail about the inspection but local media reported that the embassy sought the police action following an information regarding security issue.

The inspection started at about 5:30 p.m. and there was no threat to people, said police, adding that the police have good daily collaboration with embassies on various security-related matters.

Police said that with the consent of the sending state, the police may investigate suspected crimes or incidents that threaten the security of the diplomatic mission within the premises of the embassy.

The police are responsible for ensuring public order and safety, as well as the crime investigation in Finland, said the press release, adding that the premises of diplomatic missions are inviolable under international agreements.
